Guided visit to Montsonís Castle and tasting lunch at "la Botiga"
Montsonís Castle was built in 1024 by order of the Count of Urgell, Ermengol II. For centuries it was in the hands of various lineages, to reach -always from father to son- Carlos de Montoliu, Baron de l'Albi, thirtieth Lord of Montsonís and current owner of the castle.
Of the majestic Some of the highlights of the building are: the magnificent exterior façade, presided over by the keep, the private oratory, the kitchen, the stone benches for celebrating, the bread oven, the prison, the cellar, the room reserved for pilgrims, the weapons, the shield room and the rest of the rooms where tapestries and memorabilia from other times are exhibited.
For curious visitors: the magnificent views from the keep, the prison with the chains for the prisoners; the fugitive's room, with a window but no door, the secret passageway to the cellar to escape in the event of a siege.
Take the opportunity to get to know the town of Montsonís and combine the visit with the food-tasting in "La Botiga" de Montsonís: an idyllic corner that will take you on a journey through taste savoring typical products from Montsonís. Some of the specialties that we recommend trying are spinach cannelloni (grandmother's old recipe), salads with the best garden produce, baked chicken with apples and plums, homemade meatballs with tomato sauce and onion confit.
